it's a sort of figurative-cubism
by Karl-erik Larson
Starting July 15th, the gramstand is proudly hosting the work of Karl-erik Larson on our upper and lower level walls.
Here's a message from the arist: Hello. I'm a local artist living and working here in New York. I work predominantly as an architect, but have been painting off and on for the last 11 years. I'm a self-taught painter and mostly self-educated in the arts, in general. I concentrate on the human face specifically; expression, shadow, the full range of human emotion, etc are what interest me, more broadly.
My paintings are available for sale and I also do commissions when the circumstances work out. I hope you enjoy my paintings and feel free to contact me with any requests/questions. Karl

opening reception for Diana Becerra & Kazuhiro Murai.
Sunday, April 20th - From 730pm to 1030pm, come sip to some new art and music at gramstand's public art reception welcoming Diana
Becerra and Kazuhiro Murai. The gallery event will take place upstairs, while the downstairs will be available for regular cafe seating.
Diana Becerra is an artist from Spain, currently living in NYC. Interested in
the organic nature of imperfection & chaos, she conveys movement &
depth within simple designs. Presently she is exploring the
differences
between palettes & how color is charged with meaning.
Kazuhiro Murai is a Japanese-born printmaker. Mainly inspired by water &
its movements, Kazuhiro depicts these qualities through abstract printmaking,
primarily depicting the tranquility of water experienced in nature.

"PUSH"
Sunday, December 9th -- Come welcome Jordana Zeldin to the gramstand gallery.
Starting at 7pm, we will be toasting to photography, which highlights a concept very important to gramstand:
The nine photographs in PUSH pay unexpected attention to "The Everyday."
By focusing on details that might otherwise go unnoticed,
common objects and street scenes take on surprising lives of their
own. Removed from their context and function in our daily routine,
they become abstract compositional worlds of color, geometry, and
movement. I look forward to sharing my work with you.

beecher trouble
smith-stackhouse, "death"
I would like to invite you to the Beecher Trouble Smith-Stackhouse's
gallery opening at the Gramstand tonight, November 10th. From
9pm-11pm, we will be toasting to his latest works in which he explores
a rather untraditional interpretation of "death."
Beecher is a
talented artist whose work carries a quirky sense of drama and an eye
for creative canvas.
A trip to his website demonstrates his versatility and charm:

So come on down to the Gramstand to sip, mingle, and be moved.

From the Brooklyn Bridge to the shores of Kauai, from the people of Peru to the streets of Kroatia, local photographers, Kave Boghraty & Sarah Kohler take us on an international photo tour. "planet pop" art exhibition
Sunday July 1st -- From 7-10pm we invite the public to join us for the
opening of Michael Lazar's "Planet Pop" series, which now graces the walls
of the Gramstand. An actor by trade, an artist at heart, Michael's work is a
rollercoaster of personal "in-the-moment," expression. True to his own
words, "Each work has a messagewhether seated in an emotional
reaction to color, the impact of an iconographic image on me, or in the development of a consciously rendered concept䉥I have unshakable belief in the authenticity of the work I do. "
As always, we hope you stop by and hang-out.
aleksandra neimczyk

the Gramstand. Her work is frequently exhibited in galleries throughout
Norway and now, interestingly, finds itself at the Gramstand's gallery.
We are honored to have her work in our space. The reception for her art collection, "Continuity," will be held this Thursday, May 17th starting at 6pm.
Hope to see you there!

New York, NY -- February 1, 2006 -- gramstand announces the opening of its new caf and tea store, providing East Villagers with a modern day retreat to relax and enjoy the healthy lifestyle associated with tea. gramstand, originating as a small stand in the Gramercy area selling grams of tea to devotees city-wide. Founded and owned by Richard Salem (one of the youngest recognized tea connoisseurs in the country), gramstand provides patrons with the atmosphere that makes you feel like family, and the tea that keeps luring you coming back for more.

Specialty gramstand drinks include the infamous Citrus Berry (featuring ice cubes made of the tea centered with honey deep inside for a sweet surprise), a lychee white tea, a mocha Earl Grey with whipped cream and chocolate, and the Agito, a shot of intensely strong, dense tea higher in caffeine than normal tea that can be taken like a cappuccino shot, recently developed during Richards latest tea trip to Japan.
In a rush? gramstand features a special fast-brew process, providing those on the go with the perfect cup of tea to-go. Those who can t get enough of gramstand and their unique mixes of tea, like the popular Gramstandard, can purchase a gram (or three!) of their own to enjoy anytime.
